Meet the Artist

Hi, I’m Seong Gurung. I was born in Dhangadhi, Nepal, a small town where my love for art began. I moved to Australia in 2017, later settling in Awabakal Land (Newcastle), which I now call home.

Since I was a child, I have always loved creating art. I spent countless hours sketching and colouring, filling up many of my notebooks. I would draw anywhere I could, on paper, tables, even in the dirt. I am entirely self-taught because of this practice.

I experience colour differently, which was pointed out to me by a teacher – they called me “colour blind”, but it never stopped me from continuing to create. Instead, it has shaped the way I see, interpret and express the vivid landscapes depicted in my work. My art journey has had its ups and downs, tracing emotion, identity, and belonging across life in Nepal and Australia. My passion has remained constant.

I appreciate feedback and value how people connect with my work, particularly the nostalgia and joy it can evoke.

I hope to continue growing as an artist, and to one day be recognised for work that proudly represents my culture, my community and my family.
